You, me and your stuff
2021–
In my project You, me and your stuff, I am making jewellery by reconstructing everyday objects identified as significant in people’s lives. Investigating the role of artefacts as signifiers of identity – and as carriers of value – I asked 60 individuals to name the possessions they felt best represented who they are. The results of this survey inspired a series of necklaces that analyse and reflect on our contemporary material culture.
This body of work emerged from my graduation project Chained and developed during the pandemic. Lockdowns and the accelerated process of virtualization led to a renewed appreciation of physical presence: as personal encounters became scarce, they increasingly acquired the status of a luxury. This shift placed particular emphasis on objects that help build and sustain social relationships – objects tied to shared moments, such as having a coffee with friends or enjoying a glass of wine.
